im looking for a bit of advice as i dont have much idea when it comes to ice.. i have this head unit http://www.bassjunkies.com/index.php?cpage=product/browse_detail.php&area=shop&category_id=82&sub_category_id=12&manufacturer_id=427&product_id=30067&show_my_car=&return_link=%2Findex.php%3Fmode%3D%26cpage%3Dproduct%2Fbrowse_brand.php%26area%3Dshop%26pg%3D2%26orderby_field%3D%26orderby_sort%3D%26category_id%3D82%26sub_category_id%3D30%26manufacturer_id%3D427%26limit%3D10%26min_val%3D%26max_val%3D%26show_my_car%3D%26aperture_id%3D&source=brand

and at the moment with only 2 standard speakers in the doors. it sounds dreadfull. i was possibly thinking of changing the speakers in the doors and putting 2 6x9s on the parcel shelf.. i come stuck with bass boxes as i need the boot for work..

itsthis set up a no go or could you recommend a set up so i can have a crisp sound and do the head unit some justice?

UPGRADING YOUR FRONT SPEAKERS IS ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA, INFIFITY COMPONENTS ARE A GOOD START, AS FOR THE BACK, IF YOU WANT 6X9S THEN YOU WOULD DO WELL TO GET A DECENT AMP TOO. COMPONENTS OR COAXIALS WILL DO A GREAT JOB, INFINITY 13CM COAXIAL ARE ABOUT £60 ANS SOUND PUKKA, THAT WHAT I USE IN MY BACK SIDE POCKETS, THEY'RE AMPED WITH AN ALPINE MRP-T220 AND SOUND BEAUTIFULM, BUT SOUND GREAT ON ANY HEADUNIT OVER 4X45W, ESPECIALLY ON MY ALPINE 4 X 60W

clarion make some kinda neat "flat-subs" that should fit under the front seats. I had a mkII rover and the fitted perfectly. Is yours mkII or mkIII?
Whilst the subs aren't as loud as a few 12" cones on some big amps, they do provide some nice bass with external controls you can mount on the dash or close by and don't take up any of your boot space. Completely invisible.

6x9s in the shelf off a smallish amp should sound great. As long as the shelf is stiff (replacing it with an MDF custom jobbie helps greatly!) the whole of the boot acts as a box for the speakers. This makes shelf-speakers sound way better than door speakers. Door speakers are good for mid and trebble but bass sucks.

my rover is a p reg 1996 so i would guess mkIII (err) i like the idea of those flat clarion subs being under the seats. i will have to look out for them. any idea where i can get them from off the net? what 6x9s would you recommend around 50 quid.

thanks for your replies

Try mcs-direct, http://www.mcs-direct.co.uk/acatalog/Clarion_Subwoofers.html and the flat-sub is part number srv303.

As for the 6x9s, tends to be personal choice. My choice is the Sony Xplod range tho some people say they hate them. Others say they love them. If ya got a local halfords, tehy normally have a load of speakers stuck into a wall and you can listen to them all by clicking different buttons. Push the buttons - choose some that sound nice to you. Then walk out and try and find the model you liked on-line!! Halfords have a good selection tho their prices aren't exactly the best.

if you put dynomatting in behind the small speakers in the doors and set up a small amp say 200 watt amp and hide this under the passenger seat this should help some of the distortion for the small speakers as for the 6x9s sum wer in the latest maxpower mag thers an audio ad by alphacaraudio thers a deal for sum infinity 6x9s for 40 squids

gud luck mate

halfords are currently knocking out the nfinity 6x9s (9603i) for £49.99. definately worth the money. comparable to a £120 pair on the market, but they are at the end of their product lifecycle and have been replaced with a new model
